Frequently Asked Questions

What can we expect when ordering?

Hopefully a pretty straightforward and seem-less process - we listen to what you want, offering you friendly guidance and advice when needed. We aim to make your experience happy and stress free. A summary of the process as follows:

  1. Once you make your enquiry, we’ll send through a quote and/or ask any questions we need to, to finalise your quote.
  2. You confirm you're happy to proceed with the order based on the price and size quoted.
  3. We'll send you through an invoice which includes a breakdown of your order and our payment details - we accept bank transfer or credit card (a small surcharge applies). A 50% non-refundable deposit is required to confirm your order and secure your date. The final balance is payable 14 days before completion. For orders placed with less than 2 weeks notice, the full payment is required on booking and is non-refundable.
  4. On the day of your order, you pick up (or we deliver) your delicious sweet treat and enjoy!

How much do your cakes cost?

As there are many factors affect the overall price of a cake including size, shape, complexity of techniques and materials used, we don’t have a standard pricing list. Your budget helps us determine what to design for you, because there's no point in designing a cake you really love, only to find out that it's well over your budget.

As an indication, celebration cakes start from $150, two tier cakes from $320, cupcakes from $5.00 and macarons at $3.00. We’re happy to provide you with an obligation free quote, so if you’d like a detailed quote, complete our enquiry form.

Where can we find you?

We work out of a fully registered kitchen situated on our residential property, located in Silverstream, Upper Hutt. As we create and bake to order, we don't have cakes and sweet treats available to buy directly. Visits to discuss your event are by appointment only.

Can we collect our cake from you?

We deliver all wedding cakes within the Wellington region and set them up for you on the day, however all other cake orders can either be picked up from our kitchen in Silverstream, at an agreed time, or delivered within Wellington for a fee.

We welcome self-collection but you will have to take care of your order. Our responsibility ends once the cake is out of our kitchen. Amazingly, cakes are a lot heavier than you think and fragile, as such we would strongly recommend you to have us deliver it for you. Please note when a time is agreed upon for collection, please be on time as we may not be able to wait around for an alternative collection time.

Do you cater for allergies?

We have a variety of gluten free, dairy free, egg free and nut free cakes available for orders, but please note that we do use gluten, eggs, butter, milk and nuts in our kitchen at all times, and so there is always a reasonable risk that any of our products may contain traces of these allergens. We are very careful, but if someone is dangerously-allergic we recommend they stay away from our products.

Please note, that minimum orders apply for special dietary orders - sadly we can't just make one or two of your cupcake order gluten-free, eggless or vegan. Special dietary orders do include a surcharge for the ingredients used.

How much cake do I need?

There are two different serving sizes we cater to with our cakes – coffee (1” x 1” x height) or dessert (1” x 2” x height). It’s up to you which of these options works best for you as well as your budget, and how much you (and your guests) love cake! Our cakes are approximately 4" high. Make sure you let your venue know which serving size you’ve chosen, and how many servings they should get from your cake!

Do you have cake stands for hire?

Yes we do - We have a range of towers and stands available for hire. For weddings check with your venue as they will often have a wedding grade stand available.

Can I have different flavours on different tiers?

Yes, each tier is separated by a cake board so you can choose to have alternating flavours on tiered cakes.

Can I change the design after it is confirmed?

We understand that circumstances change from time to time, and we’ll do our best to work with you. Additional charges may be incurred depending on the nature of the changes. No changes can be made 1 month prior to the event date.

What if my date changes?

We will do our best to work with you on date change if the requested date is still available. Please contact us as soon as possible to alert us to a potential date change. We cannot guarantee being able to transfer your order to a new date, and the non refundable deposit may be forfeited.

I only like to serve a small number of people but I would like to have an incredible tall-looking cake, how should I go about doing that?

You may choose to only have 1 real cake tier, and all other tiers to be dummies. Price will still be dependent on the cake design, and if you go for some dummy tiers the price will be slightly lower as compared to it being all real tiers.

What is the lead-time to make an order?

Ideally as much notice as possible, we take orders 18 months in advance. The earlier we get your date locked in, the more time we have to discuss and design your specialty cake.

Is a deposit required to secure my cake order?

Yes. A 50% non refundable deposit is required to secure the slot. As all our cake orders are taken on a first in first served basis, the earlier you reach us, the higher the chances you will be able to secure the slot.

What methods of payment do you accept?

For all orders, payment is via Internet Banking or Credit Card (3.5% surcharge applies - Visa or Mastercard only).

Can I keep the top tier of my wedding cake?

Selecting fruitcake or a mud cake for the top tier of your wedding cake ensures that yes you can keep the top tier for your 1st anniversary, or for your first child's christening. We advise removing and sugar decorations or figurines, then wrapping it in cling film, before storing it in an airtight plastic container, in the freezer.
